Blog Post 11: Barn Conversion - Plain Sailing … NOT

February 2023 - well this has certainly been an interesting couple of weeks … my builder is having transport issues … for that read his van has terminally broken down and he has been unable to find a replacement - thus - he has been nowhere near site. Consequently, outstanding tasks like the the creation of the step into the living room and sealing the retained exposed stone is at a standstill … anyone got a spare van?

Additionally, apparently, because my bathrooms are more like wet rooms rather than traditional bathrooms, my plasterer does not feel he has the expertise to cover the stud walls in the en-suites … anyone know a plasterer with wet room experience?

I’ve also had to delay the kitchen delivery because of delays in the plastering. I naively assumed the plasterer would remain on my job until it was all complete, but, after the first few weeks of focusing solely on my job, my job has now become interspersed with other plastering jobs.

Then to top it all, it appears the moisture in the air from the plastering is creating mould on the walls …

This is next to the front door.

This is in the living room.

I’m sorting out a commercial dehumidifier which hopefully will solve the problem.

I’ve also asked the air source heat pump chap to bring the installation date forward so I can get the underfloor heating on … looks like the beginning of April will be the commissioning date.
